How can a Speech Pathologist and Lactation Consultant support me with my babies feeding?

Many families wait until feeding is extremely difficult or stressful before seeking help (don’t worry, I have been there!) but early intervention is optimal to support both the parent and child’s feeding journey. As a Speech Pathologist and IBCLC I can support both:

Breastfeeding Concerns:

- Difficulty with latch or positioning

- Nipple pain or damage

- Concerns about milk supply

- Baby not gaining weight appropriately

- Wanting to return to breastfeeding after supplementing

- Navigating oral restrictions

- Managing oversupply or forceful letdown

- Transitioning back to work while maintaining breastfeeding

- Preparing for breastfeeding during pregnancy

Breast, bottle and swallowing concerns:

- Prolonged feeding times (over 45 minutes)

- Frequent choking, coughing, or color changes ± wet noisy breathing during feeds

- Milk loss from mouth during feeding

- Arching or significant fussiness / refusal during feeds

- Refusal /aversive behaviours

- Supported non-oral feeding with Dietitian and your medical / allied health team

Reach out - I am here to help.
